Is this the most emotional opening scene of a game?

I spotted an article on Polygon early today and I immediately remembered the game the article talks about. It’s Ori and the Blind Forest, one of the most critically acclaimed games on Xbox and Windows in 2015. The game features a beautiful atmosphere and a touching story. And all of it starts right at the beginning of the game.

I don’t have a good PC where I can play all of those PC-only (Xbox doesn’t count :3 ) games. I have my old Dell laptop with core-i3 and Intel HD 4000 integrated chip. As it happens, Ori and the Blind Forest runs somewhat good in that laptop. So I gave the game a go.

It was a few months ago when I played the game. Usually, when I play a game and I’m fascinated by it, I take screenshots and create mental notes of how to best describe it on a post without revealing everything about it. You can see my post on Shangri-La from Far Cry 4.

In all honesty, Ori and the Blind Forest is a much more emotional and touching game. It’s almost like Limbo, but with a lot of vibrant colors and seemingly happy atmosphere behind which a dark, sad story is hidden. If you’re into this sort of games (meaning, if you liked Limbo at all) I strongly recommend Ori and the Blind Forest. You can play it if you’ve got an Xbox One or a decent PC.

Watch this prologue video below only if you’re sure you’re not going to play the game or if you’re okay with seeing the opening scene in advance.

No wonder this game received so much hype right around the time it was published. All that good reviews are well-earned for a game like this that takes you to an emotional journey through a beautiful environment.

To me, any game that can take your mind off real world is a game worth playing. In that regard, Ori and the Blind Forest is one of the must-play games from 2015.

Have you played this game or any other similar games (Journey, Flower, Limbo)?
