Serenity in Shangri-La

Who knew a video game could present you with a virtual environment that leaves your jaw hanging as you embrace the breathtaking beauty of man-made scenery?

Turns out, those who played Far Cry 4 before me, knew.

I wasn’t prepared at all for the stunningly beautiful world that Shangri-La — a place in Far Cry 4 — presented to me. I’d heard that Shangri-La itself is worth playing the game for, and I didn’t know what my friends were talking about.

It was like a dream — it probably was from the game’s perspective — but it was unlike any dream inside of a game that I’d ever seen. I didn’t realize what was happening for a while, but I didn’t want to. It was just too beautiful to stop looking around and start paying attention to what the game was asking to do.

Shangri-La became the perfect example of how evil things can take place in the most beautiful places. As I progressed through the area, a dialogue kept playing in the background — in Hindi, which added more vibe to the moment — unveiling that there are dark deeds behind these beautiful scenes. Some of those flashed before me. Some of those I had to take part in.

The mission was over before I could get comfortable with it. I’ve heard that there are about 6 or 7 more of such missions scattered around Kyrat or the whole of Far Cry 4 map. I’m desperately looking forward to getting back to Shangri-La to breathe in more scenic beauty and uncover the secrets of the place.

Far Cry 4 truly is one of the best games that I’ve played for a while. (Because I’m playing it now, expect more Far Cry 4 rants to drop on this blog in the coming weeks.)

Have you played Far Cry 4? What was your favorite thing about the game?
